.KEY MESSAGES...
* Much warmer weather and increased streamflows due to snowmelt
Monday through Wednesday. No flooding impacts anticipated.
* Showers and thunderstorms possible each afternoon Monday through
Wednesday, especially in the Sierra.
* A stronger cold front may bring light mountain snow, increased
breezes, and cooler temperatures Thursday into Friday before
warmer and drier weather returns Easter weekend.

.DISCUSSION...
After a mild day today, much warmer weather arrives Monday through
Wednesday as daytime highs reach the upper 60s and upper 70s
areawide, which is about 10-20 degrees above normal or more typical
of early June. Not quite record breaking warmth, but certainly warm
enough to accelerate snowmelt and increase regional streamflows.
Flooding impacts are not anticipated, however.
A somewhat messy weather pattern evolves through midweek as a
cluster of weak low pressure areas off the southern CA coast induce
a transition from high pressure overhead to broad troughing with a
deeper closed-low in the eastern Pacific by midweek. The main impact
will be chances of showers and thunderstorms each afternoon from
Monday through Wednesday. Monday afternoon features the lowest
likelihood (~10% chance), but a few showers or a stray thunderstorm
remain possible in the Sierra south of US-50. Chances of showers and
storms increase Tuesday (10-20% chance) and Wednesday afternoon (15-
35% chance) with the best chances continuing to favor the
Sierra/higher terrain, although extending a bit farther north
towards I-80. Some showers/storms may drift into adjacent valleys
of western Nevada on Tuesday and Wednesday. Potential impacts from
any storms include brief downpours, gusty outflows, and
occasional lightning.
After Wednesday, ensembles are keen on a slider-type trough and
attendant cold front moving through the region Thursday and Friday.
Details are still uncertain, but this may bring us at least one more
dose of winter as light mountain snow, increased breezes, and cooler
temperatures are on the table to end the week. In true spring
fashion, there is also a chance of thunderstorms/pellet showers
Thursday afternoon. Winter`s return would be rather brief as we`ll
likely warm-up and dry out over Easter weekend.

.AVIATION...
Light to moderate mountain wave turbulence may persist along and
west of the Sierra crest through 18Z this morning before subsiding
winds mitigate turbulence concerns by the afternoon. Otherwise,
expect widespread VFR conditions and light afternoon breezes
today. Showers and isolated thunderstorms possible each afternoon
Monday through Wednesday, mainly in the Sierra.
